Dee Libine (also known as Dee Lee) is a Swiss independent filmmaker and the director of Stupid Shoes. At 40, she had surgery for a bunion. Ten years later she stumbled on a video showing what a foot actually looks like inside an ordinary, “healthy” sneaker. And the toe position looked suspiciously like hers before the surgery. That got her wondering. Did normal shoes cause this?

What began as one question about one sore foot became a worldwide investigation spanning 245 years of scientific evidence, eighteen experts across podiatry, neuroscience, archaeology, fashion psychology and shoe design — and a shoe industry that politely declined to comment.

Stupid Shoes (2026) is her feature documentary debut — investigative, data-driven, and told with a dry sense of humour: rigorous but never dry, personal but never preachy. She is releasing it directly to audiences worldwide through stupidshoesmovie.com.
